23, 2009 Hunter Strothers joins Board of Directors of the YWCA of Northwest Georgia
On October 23, 2008, Adrienne Hunter Strothers became a member of the Board of Directors for the YWCA of Northwest Georgia. The YWCA is the oldest and largest multicultural women's organization in the world. Across the globe, the organization has more than 25 million members in 122 countries, including 2.6 million members and participants in 300 local associations in the United States. The mission of the YWCA is to eliminate racism and empower women, and worldwide, the organization provides safe places for women and girls, builds strong women leaders, and advocates for women's rights and civil rights.
The YWCA of Northwest Georgia specifically focuses on the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault, providing among other programs, a 32-bed facility for victims of domestic violence and a sexual assault program in association with WellStar Windy Hill Hospital and Kennestone and South Cobb Emergency Rooms.
Hunter Strothers inducted as a member of the Dogwood City Chapter of the Links, Incorporated
On June 7, Adrienne Hunter Strothers became a member of The Links, Incorporated, an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. The membership consists of more than 12,000 women in 273 chapters located in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. The Links, Incorporated is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations, and its members are committed to the cultural and economic empowerment of people of African ancestry in the Americas through education, health and wellness, and civic involvement.
The Dogwood City Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is one of five chapters in the Atlanta Cluster of The Links, Incorporated. The Atlanta Cluster of The Links, Incorporated has partnered with the Coretta Scott King Young Women's Leadership Academy (CSKYWLA), a 6-12 single gender academy in Southwest Atlanta that focuses on preparing young women for entry into a four year college.
